I have a laptop whose screen is very dark, almost unreadable. When I hook up the laptop to an external monitor, the picture is fine.

Any idea what the problem is?

Thanks

What laptop is it? Hopefully just a disconnected cable (start with the cable for the FL tube, then the cable going to the FL inverter, and then the cable connecting to the system board). Worse would be a broken FL tube, blown fuse, or a bad FL inverter. Could also be as easy as a stuck lid switch (the sensor that detects when you close the lid).

Might be that the contrast/brightness is on the lowest possible setting. Try turning it up.

I hate laptops!!! My office spent $800--twice fixing mine. It still isn't right. How old is it?? Out of warrantee?? Extended service policies are a must for laptops. R
