Bad item from Amazon.com

How do I deal with Amazon to rectify the situation? Call them? Contact them online? Do I have to send the item back to them? What exactly is the best process for me to pursue here? Thanks for the help, I've never had to do this with Amazon before.

Included in my order from Amazon that I received around 2 weeks ago were two 12 foot headphone extension cables. Not necessarily for headphones, but 1/8" male/female plugs. At first I thought they were both defective, and posted a 1 star review for the item and was going to ask for a refund or exchange, something. Then I decided that maybe I was in error, and deleted my review. Yesterday I determined that one is definitely defective (one channel cuts in and out depending on the position of the cord with respect to the female plug), the other cable is maybe/probably OK (what are the odds that both would be bad?).

If you bought it *from* Amazon (eg: Amazon was the actual seller or supplier) then returns/refunds are as easy as it gets. Just initiate a return from your account profile on their website and choose "defective item" from the list. They'll provide you with a pre-paid return label and since the item is defective they'll pay for return shipping. Drop it off at your mailroom or have it picked up and you're done.

Contact their support line and tell them you got a defective product. They're a reputable dealer - they should tell you to send it back and they'll give you a new one.

Oh, and bitch and whine enough to make them pay for shipping.

Whatever you do don't check the Amazon.com help pages under the clearly labeled "Returns and Refunds " section.

You're asking here before just picking up the damn phone and asking Amazon what their return procedures are?

Do you wipe your own ass, or does that happen by referendum?

I don't know about you but I don't have an Amazon complaints phone number programmed into my phones, nor do I have any experience with this. You can try to put me down for posting this, but I've already gotten several good suggestions of what to do and what not to do.

Then this is it. I presume it is from Amazon since it was part of a >$25 free shipping order. Thanks.

Edit: A shipping label is indeed provided. Hopefully, it's prepaid! Yep, it's prepaid.

Edit2: It's all packaged up and ready to be given to my letter carrier or dropped off at the post office.

For your sorely needed information, I got this done without having to touch my telephone, much less navigate some maze phone answering system. Wipe your ass with that, sjwaste!

Amazon is not very good with their phone service. But their online service is great.

Not true. Amazon doesn't like to give out their number, but you can put in a request ticket for their customer service people to call you. They'll call you within 5 minutes.

There are no girls on the Internet.

If there were, they wouldn't be on ATOT.

Thinking about girls gets me all tingly.... down there.

You should run in circles so fast you take off like a helicopter. You can then land at your nearest Amazon dealer and return the cords in person. They'll appreciate your timely delivery.

I love Amazon customer service. I've only had to contact them a couple times but they are always great.

Another note...with Amazon so quick to delete people's accounts, sellers are usually very quick to respond as well. I had a laptop charger go bad and the seller shipped me a new one with no questions asked. He didn't even want the old one back.

Great...now I feel like ordering something from Amazon.

For future reference, Amazon has incredible (1-866-216-1072) customer service and will go out of their way to set things right. They'll usually cross-ship if you receive a broken item, not requiring that they charge your card and credit when they receive the return package. If they're OOS on an item, they'll try to sell you a similar or better replacement at the same price. I've noticed Amazon has stopped trying to be the absolute cheapest on most things they sell, but they're competitive, have great customer service, and Amazon Prime.

They will, however, blacklist accounts who abuse their service. It was a news story some time ago.

Seriously, though, my post was more sarcastic than a flame. With some exceptions, giving people a hard time here isn't really my thing. My apology for coming across like an asshole.

I just logged into my account and this was the first thread in OT. Have I entered some kind of space/time rift?
Calendar on my wall still says 2013.

Ahhh, I see there was an edit done today. Nice stealth necro.
