Bad frame rate in CS w/ win xp

Alright first of all I posted this in the video card forum already but I wasn't sure where it belonged so I decided to post here also. As I know on some sites I have never been in specific areas of the forum.

Post:

I have recently installed XP and though it is my favorite OS as of now one thing pisses me off. I use to get 99fps consistantly while playing CS...it rarely dropped below that even with smoke and the like. Anyway after installing XP I noticed CS was getting really choppy. I checked the fps and it was between 20-60...but usually around 40ish and below. I have heard this is a bug with the via agp drivers and XP and that there is a fix for it somewhere...but I have yet to locate one. I'm running the system in my sig, Det4 23.11's, and via .37's.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks,
Chris

Try doing this, go to your video card settings for Open GL and turn Vertical Sync to always off. Then load up counter-strike and while in a game lower the console and type fps_max 100. See if it works.

Well I was running in direct3d but i tried the open gl stuff and still no go....but thanks.

Any other suggestions would be helpful...btw I dont have AA on at all.

Hey Wuzup, do you play Max Payne? What kind of fps do you get in that? I'm curious because I just built a system that's similar to yours (see link below), and I'm only getting 30-40 fps. I suppose it could be because I've got AA turned on, maybe I should turn it off and try that. Also maybe I'll try CS (installed, but haven't tried it yet 'cause I don't want to get waxed 'cause I'm such a newb) and see how that compares.

Thanks,
Jason
