why all the hate?

why do we go to countries that may or may not even want us, and try to instill our values by force all while turning away millions of people that actually WANT to be American?

Most illegals come here so they can send money back to their families. It has nothing to do with becoming American.
Isn't that why america is called the land of opportunity? The reason most of the country's entire population chose to come here over this nations short history? I would be willing to bet if immigration policy was improved, these people would want to bring their entire families here. The fact that they have to sneak in makes this currently prohibitive.

You can't say they don't want to be American until they are given that option and decline.

Not to mention, legalizing these workers would guarantee the govt. would get their cut (and consequently help fund a lot of the programs these people criticized for benefiting from).

Now if they are given the option, and do not want to become citizens they should not be allowed to stay permanently. Right now they do not have that option.

the idea of america being the land of opportunity is that you come here and integrate yourself and become an american.

originally found from mosh, who originally got it from teddy roosevelt when he was addressing communism and the red scare:

"In the first place we should insist that the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equity with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming an American and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any flag of a nation to which we are hostile. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

THAT is what it means to immigrate to america, IMO. it's too bad we don't have anyone like this around anymore.

Its easy to hate. But when someone wants something done cheap, here comes the love.

Wait until bagged lettuce starts costing $10 instead of the $3 it is now.

I think that all illegal immigrants should be treated as what they are... criminals. Merely by being here, they have demonstrated their disregard for the laws of the land. Every illegal immigrant should be shipped back and barred entry for 25 years.
Legal immigrants should be prepared to make a positive contribution to our economy... and be ineligible for any social services for 25 years after arrival.

So we should be paying medicare/SS tax but never recieve it?
If the government want's to make me illegible for those services I have no problem as long as they stop taxing me for it.
I don't need any of those foolish social services when I can perfectly manage my own investments.

Consider all those taxes as fees for allowing you to be here...😀

What if the US started forcing emigration of the bottom 25% of our population and increasing immigration of the most intelligent, educated, and hardworking people?

I wonder which posters in this thread would be forced out?
