I guess this is similar to when we had a roach infestation at the old house, when we stop cooking at home, and just started eating out, all the roaches left.

But at what cost?

Hasta la vista, baby.

(but you know...as they swam back across, they said, "I'll be back!")

Pablo is an illegal immigrant from Guatemala who came to the United States to support his wife and five sons back home. When he arrived, construction jobs were plentiful. Over the last year, he says, he's worked three days.
I don't know what to say about that.

why all the hate?

why do we go to countries that may or may not even want us, and try to instill our values by force all while turning away millions of people that actually WANT to be American?

Interesting. The rats are leaving the sinking ship. This economy must be really bad. At least the arm forces are still hiring, or are they?

Yes, I posted about not being sure what to say about that situation. And then you posted about me posting.

What hate? It's about what is best for the people of the US, not what people from other countries want. We can export our values without having everyone in the world who shares our values live here, right? I'm sure every person living in a poor country wants the (relatively) high standard of living found in most western countries... but does that mean they should be allowed in unconditionally?

Right now the majority are disallowed unconditionally. I am fine with conditional admission, in fact I would demand it. As far as being here illegally... IMO the current immigration system essentially forces it. If these people do not want to be citizens, then they should not be allowed to stay, absolutely. But if they want to be citizens and are prohibited, then that is a problem to me.

Anyone without a criminal history should be allowed in.

I disagree, however, restrictions should be eased. By lowering the barriers to legal immigration, and raising the barriers to illegal, we can still have enough workers for those bottom-end jobs that we're told Americans won't do, but there will also be some quality control (and thus, fewer problems with crime/uninsured drivers/drugs).

Right now the only people we let in are basically the rich and successful. Not the sort of people who would be willing to do our yardwork.:p
