Avoiding the fight > *

I've seen plenty of people go nutso on the road too, but I've never been able not to avoid the confrontation. Why avoid it? Because I can imagine no scenario within which that sort of confrontation would end in a positive way.

I'd love to hear any scenario you can think up that DOESN'T either end in you in the back of a cop car, OR depend absolutely in the other person being scared off by your gun (as opposed to deciding he should get his gun, too). Even if you do scare someone off with the gun, you might end up in jail for it.

There was a thread a while back (I cant find it) about some guy who kicked in the window of another car and tried to pull out the driver during a road rage incident. He pulled out a pistol and shot the attacker. He was not arrested, it was self defense.

Although rare, there are scenarios where you can shoot someone in self-defense while in your vehicle.

She probably didn't even have a license.

I didn't see OP state that the other driver was female or male.

Was the driver a woman? I wouldn't be surprised. I dislike most female drivers because they give a bad rep to those of us who can drive properly.

There are plenty of bad drivers of both genders, though, sadly. 😉

Re-read the OP

Ahh missed the little blurb after your sketch. 🙂

I loathe people holding cell phones up to their heads while driving.

Makes me want to force them to stop, pull them out of their vehicles and b!tch slap them silly. grrrrrr

I commute 80 miles a day, and I am well prepared if someone ever gets out of their car and approaches me. I have a knife, a can of pepper spray, and a 12 guage shotgun loaded with 00 buck in my car. You dont know who you are fucking with when you exit your vehicle to approach someone during a road rage incident. You should remain in your vehicle no matter who is at fault.

I thought that was against the law in IL. Did they change it?

Heh, I saw SandEagle replied to my thread and wondered "I wonder how he will spin this into making it my fault..."

No, I'm not the dumbass, dumbass. I never said I breaked "hard", I said I randomly breaked. IE: when someone is tailing you so bad that you cant even see their headlights anymore, its not uncommon to lightly tap your brakes just enough so your lights come one, causing them to slam on theirs. I do this to all extreme tailgaters. Its not safe when someone is riding your ass like that.

It becomes personal when they flick you off. It would have been one thing if the lady had done nothing and silently admitted her mistake. She reacted like a child about it. Shes the dumbass

doesn't sound like you tried to diffuse the situation, does it? you were trying to escalate it because:

1) it was a female driver and you felt like you could take her on if anything happened.
2) you intentionally kept braking to get back at her
3) you keep weapons in the car expecting and hoping for confrontation

i commuted over 110 miles everyday for several years and had no problems. the problem is YOU and your lack of self control. you are the P&N troll that is full of hate and advocates violence. oh yes, nick, i can read you like a book. you are guilty.

I mispoke. I have a couple boxes of 00 buck next to my shotty. Thats as close to loaded up as I can get in IL, so thats why I said it in those terms. Apologies for the confusion.

IL FTL

Back for more eh?

1) it was a female driver and you felt like you could take her on if anything happened.

Nope, I didnt do anything out of the ordinary just because she was a woman.

2) you intentionally kept braking to get back at her

Eh, not really. I wouldnt have been tapping my brakes if she wasnt riding my ass. She brought it on herself.

3) you keep weapons in the car expecting and hoping for confrontation

You know this...how? I keep the pepper spray in case of a confrontation. The shotgun is mainly for the skeet/trap shooting that I do, but its there just in case. Do I hope for a confrontation? Absolutely not.

Beyond rare.

That's what it sounds like for me. Look for trouble hard enough and you usually find it.

Seriously, there was nothing keeping you from just blowing it (edit: this morning's thing) off and driving away.

Thats what I did...

As I start making my turn, some dumbass is making a left turn from the other direction right into me. I lay on my horn and they freeze, nearly colliding with my car. The driver looks at me, and flicks me off. WTF lol? I made a crazy looking face and put up 2 middle fingers right back. Said driver was upset at my retort, and tailgaited me for the next 2 miles. I proceeded to randomly break to force the dumbass to slam on theirs. They finally turned.

You did this for two miles, and presumably only stopped because they turned.

Now, I'll say that for my part, I've done some absolutely stupid shit on the roads that I thought was perfectly non-stupid at the time. A little older, maybe marginally wiser, I'm trying to tell you that if you look for trouble, you find it far more often than if you're looking to avoid it.

I will do this to anyone that is that far up on my ass. What if I actually need to slam on my brakes? There are deer everywhere in this area and I have had to do this before to avoid a collision with a deer. If I need to break suddenly and there is a tard already on top of me, its going to be an accident. I tap my brakes to get them to back off. I do this to all extreme tailgaters.

If this is absolutely stupid, then so be it. I dont want to be rear-ended

I've had this exact same thing happen to me a couple times in the last few years. At least one of them appeared to be an idiot teenager.

I agree and I liken it a little to poker. If you go all in with QQ, JJ or equivalent, then the only hand that is going to call you is AA, KK or AK.

In other words, the only person who won't be scared of a shotgun is someone who has you beaten - either by fire power or ability.

You don't want to be rear-ended, but brake check people hard enough that they need to slam their brakes. Interesting method of accident avoidance.

The point is, you did nothing but antagonize the situation by doing so. You could have pulled over and let them pass - would have cost you what, 30 seconds?. You could have sped up and left them behind, assuming you were under the speed limit.

This happened to me several times, it's annoying.

I've recently been getting the exact opposite though, when I was that car coming from the North turning left and the other car is from the South turning right. Since it's clearly the other car's right of way, when I saw him early I naturally slowed down, expecting him to turn quick. Instead of making his turn though, when he saw me he also slowed down, and slowed down, and hit the brake and stopped, giving me the hand signal to go ahead and turn in front of him. This annoys me just as much as the above, as it messes up with my timing (I usually drive a manual so I don't want to go to a full stop and had to shift to first gear).

I support your initial confrontation with Big Mama. However, I know in some places brake checking is illegal, so you might not want to do that as a common practice to mess with tailgaters. Also, each time you use the word "break" it makes my blood pressure go up.

I've met plenty of people who, for whatever reason, have said that they're "supposed" to end up in the right-hand lane when making a left turn onto a two-lane road. Their reasoning? Because ending up in the left-hand lane is too sharp a turn.

I once had a woman in front of me (we were both turning left) go into the right lane as I went into the left. She then swerved straight into my car in an attempt to make a left turn (yes, from the right-hand lane) onto a side street. Good times were had by all.

I usually get the opposite. I have a green arrow to turn left and assholes try to turn right on red in front of me. They are the reason we have a bunch of no turn on red signs. Morons.

If someone doesn't know the area, he may have no idea there's a green left turn arrow on opposing traffic.

^ That is the reason why there are so many no turn on red signs (have you seen one at an intersection where there weren't turn lights?).

Think people think.

.

Listen, I never braked "hard". I lightly tapped my foot on the break, my car didnt even slow down 1mph. If she has to slam her brakes then thats her problem, maybe she shouldnt follow so closely. I didnt want her shitty cobalt buried in my trunk.

I do my best to avoid crappy cars behind me, especially when my exhaust system costs more than their whole car.
