Bad drive/disc, how can I get the corrupted files anyway?

Ichinisan

Lifer
Each time I try to copy a file from my backup disc, it fails the CRC and Windows tells me that the file is corrupted.

How can I at least get the partially-corrupted file?

I'm assuming this is off a cd-r or something. What if you try another optical drive? What about reading it off another PC?

Not really an option right now, but I think it's the disc anyway.

It pisses me off that DVD media is so sensitive. I am obsessive-compulsive in the way I handle and store my discs, but I still have these problems. Protective/replaceable cartridges should have always been part of the standard for optical drives and media 😡

I've had a lot of problems with some of the cheaper DVD media that I purchased. Buy quality discs and you should be okay, it made a huge difference for me. Or your DVD drive might need cleaning / replacing. Try another drive.
