First my comp wont boot properly. I get a scandisk message I have a bad cluster. I fix that. Today im playing CS and my comp locks hard. First time its ever done that. I reboot and get a message I have yet another bad cluster. WTF?

My HD is a seagate 5,400rpm 40 gig. Its about 1.5 years old and has been used a LOT! So my question is: Are bad clusters a sign my HD is about to crap out? 2 days in a row is starting to worry me.

Secondly, Ive never had a HD last more than 2 years. I constantly write/erase/encrypt to them. I turn my comp on/off daily. Im hard on hard drives. I have a feeling this one is about to go. I need to know the highest quality harddrive out there. Looking for a 60-80 gig, 7,200 rpm. I need a drive that can withstand my daily punishment :)

thanks guys.

Cant for wrong with a Maxtor/quantum...

and if during a blue moon a maxtor craps out..... their customer service is excellent.

I would RMA it but i cant remember where I got it from. You see, I have a lot of miscellaneous hardware laying around :)

Anyway. it sucks cuz im fairly certain more and more clusters are gonna keep crapping out. If I can get it stable tonight im gonna burn everything i can.

RMA it to Seagate, not the place you bought it from. I recommend the Seagate Barracuda IV's. IMO, they are much better than Seagate's older HD's. Maxtor is also good but I don't trust them since they bought Quantum (I never had a single Quantum work properly).
