Bad BIOS flash?

I flashed my BIOS today and after the flash my monitor goes into sleep whenever my computer turns on. I'm pretty sure it's a bad flash. What are some things i could do to possibly fix my motherboard or is it something else?
 
i once flashed my bios and had the same problem but in that instance it was unfixable their should be a jumper you can move on your mobo, that resets the bios/cmos, consult your manual
 
i don't have my manual with me. I've tried resetting the BIOS already and that hasn't worked... So, I'm guessing i need to RMA it? Or can i get the BIOS chip replaced someway that wouldn't require me to ship my motherboard back in?
 
did you clear your cmos after you did the flash?
EDIT: sorry, I see you already tried that. You did have the power cord unplugged when you re-set the bios right?

Edit: I am actually unclear as to what you mean by "startup" whether you can get into bios durng post.
If so, you could set to failsafe defaults.

If not, you could try a VGA (PCI) vid card to see if you can boot into monitor
If not, you could do a "blind flash" with a floppy with the old bios on it.
Some are automated (autoexec.bat) that you dont have to do anything
Manually, you would have to watdch the floppy light, and when it stopped, just type in needed text
awardflash or whatever and hit enter.
Some ask if you want to save, so you may have to hit enter more than once.
Obviously, the flash would take a while.

Try again.

Turn off power-supply. Remove jumper from 2-3 (Normal) to 1-2 (Reset), remove the battery. Count to 15. Put battery back in. Put jumper back on 2-3.
 
So, i booted didn't do anything and i booted up the computer and it worked just fine... but then said something about missing ntfs.sys and to boot up and fix it with my windows xp cd, so i restart with the windows xp cd in and it freezes when it tries to boot from cd and since then it has kept on coming up in sleep mode again. I tried switching out video cards because i thought it might be that, and even with a different card it still doesn't work. Anything else i should try (short of sending back the mobo)?
 
For the life of me I don't know why people want to flash their BIOS? As long as ones PC is "working" leave well enough alone. Flashing the BIOS can kill your PC if you don't know what you're doing.
My sister's old man tried it twice and killed two motherboards.
 
well, ntfs.sys is your NT file system

you mentioned that you booted ONCE fine - which means your bios is fine.
did you flash from a floppy??
boot sector virus are transferred often by floppies

the easy way to prove your harddrive needs help is to remove it and put in any other HDD that has XP on it and boot into safe mode so that it doesnt go looking for drivers for everything. I'd bet your monitor works every time.

Some also say it might be a memory prob - and a bios flash would change most of your manual settings

Of course we are flying blind here - no info on mobo, RAM, HDD, bios vers etc
 
I have had that happen to me man times, sometimes the boot order gets changed after flash,
go in and check your boot order as Sata or IDE first.
Unplug any network cable and carefully reset all devices in the biosand try rebooting then.

 
Bozo. Thanks man. I had a bad bios flash and as well and I have been searching the forums for some help. I had ordered a 6800 nu from newegg and thought i would check for updates for my system so that it can run as sweet as possible. Sure enough my bios had an update for better performance so I jumped all over it. Problem was I started playing halflife2 and it locked up on me so. I was in the process of flashing back to my previous bios when I got a verify error. When I restarted windows I got nothing but bios beeps and no post on my monitor but I could see that my system was accessing the cd and floppy. So I have been searching for the last two days for a way to flash even though I couldn't see it. My motherboard site forums had nothing and since it was the holiday weekend I thought I wouldn't here from them until Monday. Luckly for me I found your post in this thread. And I followed your suggestion. My computer fired right up. Thanks it was sucking bad just looking at my new card, waiting.....
 
1. If you are using an Abit MB... Make Sure you have a fan plugged into the CPU fan header. I didn't and found out the hard way... No reboot.
After several emails back and forth with Abit tech support AND ordering another BIOS chip, I plugged in a fan and BINGO, it booted right up with the new flash.

2. If you really did have a bad flash, just order one from "Bad Flash dot Com". You are going to be out $$ no matter what way you go. You might as well order a BIOS chip and NOT have to pull & pack your MB.

I keep my BIOSes updated and have never had a bad flash. But I always do it from a boot floppy and I go into the BIOS, set the default settings and turn off all hardware memory caching beforehand.

You said you were able to boot once. Now try this.

1. Get ready with the old bios on a floppy disk (bootable floppy).
2. Insert it to the floppy drive.
3. Try booting the system. Some mobo requires you to hold down on the Ins key while booting to reset the bios to default. You may to try this more than once. Remember hold down Ins key while turning on the system.
4. If you were able to boot. Flash the bios back to the old bios. Make sure you follow the events closely.
5. After flashing, remove floppy and then go back to the bios to reset it to default settings.
6. Re-start and see if windows will load. If you are missing NTFS.sys your boot files are messed up or your boot sector can be messed up too.
7. Boot with the win xp cd. Re-install using the repair option. This will just re-install windows system files but will keep all the same programs and settings. You shouldn't see any difference.
