BAD, BAD, BAD

All the good Opteron 148 are gone (CABNE, CABYE,etc). There is only newer and bad steppings behind (in newegg.com), so who able to oc would be this new one?

Or is a better and safer choise go for a SD?

I think the jury is still out on the new steppings. Everyone thought CABNE was king until CABYE 0540 showed up a few weeks after that. Some of the newer CABNE's are suck too. For me, the week was important. I had 2 CABYE 0540's and a CAB2E 0540 that were excellent. If you can find a 146 for less than a SD3700, buy it, it is simply a better tested cpu at the factory and will probably require less volts than the SD. You don't need a 148....

Mmm....but the 146 cost $30 bucks less than the SD, so..

I why should I care which one would eat less Volts? ......I dont know

Well, for one thing, less volts usually equates to lower operating temperature and also gives you a lower starting point to get a possibly better OC. I had a San Diego 3700 that required 1.55v to reach 2.75 GHz. I've had 3 146 Opty's that hit 2.8 GHz on stock voltage (1.4v). I had plenty of room for increasing voltage on the Opty. Heat will be a bigger issue, once you start hitting around 2.8-2.9 GHz, expect load temperatures to approach 50C in 72F ambient air with air cooling. A good water setup or better will give you even more room....I'd never run over 1.55v on any AMD 90nm cpu, but that's just me, alot of people do with success....
