Bad Back

Judgement

Diamond Member
I recently re-injured my lower back lifting a box that was too big and awkward for one person to carry. It forced me to lean too far over top of it placing almost all the weight onto my back. Needless to say I'm in fairly terrible pain 🙁

I'm not here to b!tch and moan about that though... I'm getting worried this will be a common occurance for the rest of my life. I'm a fairly young guy (college student) and I never had any back problems until earlier this summer. I'm not exactly sure what the circumstances were when I injured it the first time... I know I woke up with a sore back from sleeping on it wrong and then I lifted a couple heavy things throughout the day. By the time I went to bed I couldn't even stand up the pain was so bad in my lower back. For 3 days I was basically bed ridden (thank god I'm on summer break).

Now I'm worried I did some kind of permanent damage and I will have to deal with back pain the rest of my life from that stupid injury. The box I was trying to lift earlier wasn't even that heavy... I never even got it off the ground though because the pain was almost instantaneous. I never would have had problems with this before... I'm sure of it. I'm too young to be dealing with this BS. The pain isn't anywhere near as bad this time as it was last time, but its enough that non-perscription pain killers don't seem to be doing jack to help.

The first injury was roughly 6 weeks ago, leaving me to believe it was probably as healed as it was ever gonna become. Do you guys think I should be worried about back problems for the rest of my life :disgust: ? I never even gave a second thought after the pain was gone from the second injury... figured it would heal and I would be back to normal from now on... I didn't have any lingering pain etc just some soreness for a week or so. Are there any home remedies to help the pain? I wish I had some kind of heat pad.... :frown: I really want to avoid going to the doctor if at all possible I'd like to diagnose this myself.

d00d, i have the same thing. Bear in mind that back injuries take a minimum of 6 weeks to heal though, and the best thing to do is take some Ibuprofen 3 times every day and take a little light exercise, but don't overdo it.

Go see your doc if you are worried.

As long as you dont have any pain shooting down over the cheek of your buttox , down your leg and making your foot numb.
If any of these symptoms are there get to a doctor right away a slipped or ruptured disk will just get worse with exercise, wear a brace when lifting and learn lifting methods, do not lean over to pick up stuff. After the first time I would think that you would take a little better care. If you dont take care of your back when you are young you will be miserable when you get over 50.

My doctor and chiropractor pretty much recommended the same therapy:

Take long hot showers with the water directed at the sensitive part of your back.

Lay on your back and pull one knee to your chest and hold it for a count of 10. Then do the same thing to the other knee. Then do the same with both knees at the same time. Repeat these exercises as often as you can.

Live with the fact that you have a BAD BACK and be sensible and if your back tells you something listen.

I definately learned after the first time, but this box wasn't exactly very heavy and the box couldn't be lifted by one person without leaning over :\

The pain took me by surprise, I could easily lift the box's weight with one arm if it hadn't been so big.
