I just got a P4 1.5 ghz cpu and a geforce 2 gts by Asus
i wanted to see how fast my comp was so i got 3dmark2001
my score in 32 bit was 1228.
the 3dmark website (madonion.com) said that with my setup i should get a score around 3400.
which the site says is 377% better than mine.
now i just did a complete wipe of my hard drives, reinstalled windows 98. i have the new XP Detonator driver. and the driver that came with the motherboard for the P4 chip. and i have 256 mb ram. I did download and install any updates that were necassary from microsoft
when i tested using 16 bit textures and stuff my score went up, but still not to what they should be. I tried to get the latest chipset driver from the Intel website but when i tried to install it, it wouldn't install, claimed some registry name error. this hasn't caused any problems with windows that i have noticed though.

I will post my setup in a neat orderly fashion.
Pentium 4 1.5 ghz
Msi Pro 2 for P4 850 chip
256 mb pc800 rambus
Asus GF2 gts pure
12 Gb hard drive
Windows 98 Second Edition
Directx 8.0a

I am assuming whatever settings i run windows in it doesn't matter because 3Dmark changed the settings.
here is the 3D mark score with a comparison.
http://gamershq.madonion.com/products/orb/?publish_compare.shtml?&project_type=6&dprid=1628889

The only thing i can think of that would explain my low score would be an old chipset driver.

One last question, in 3Dmark it has a system info button. It says this about memory:

Total Physical Memory: 256MB
Free Physical Memory: 27.61MB

Now is free physical memory for my video card? if it is for total ram that would easily explain my low score.

I have said a lot, i hope someone replies. :)

Thank you for your help.

Why did you install the XP detonators on a windows 98 system? the XP drivers are for Windows XP (duh) and Windows 2000.

Check your bios settings. Make sure your display settings are all correct in there. For instance your apature size should be 64bit and that it is set to agp and not vga etc. Here is the GF2 FAQ deffinately check this out.

"Why did you install the XP detonators on a windows 98 system? the XP drivers are for Windows XP (duh) and Windows 2000"
Jackass the xp drivers are for 9x, me, NT, 2000 and XP!Know what your talking about before being an ass!

Rayden I would try and find out what was eating up your system memory like that! Try cacheman which will manage your memory and free up ram. Was that after your system was running for a couple of days?
Did you install dx8a?
Verify that fsaa was disabled in the video card properties? (that will tank scores)
Is there a chipset driver like via has for the kt133 chipset? there is a agp driver for athlon mobos and unless its installed 3d graphics suck!
Let me know what kind of motherboard you have.

I looked at the aperture size, it was 64 and i set it to 128, half of my 256 ram. your geforce faq said to do that. and looked at all the bios settings
as i posted earlier
i have directx8.0a
and my motherboard is an MSI P4 850 chipset board, the pro 2 i believe, its number is MS-6523
i did not have anti aliasing on
texture format and z buffer were both at 16 bit
i did install cacheman and it didn't seem to help at all
although now my available memory is 160-170mb, seems to change when i restart windows.
all i can think of is i don't have the latest P4 chipset drivers, which i am unable to install because of an error i get when i try to install them
so, short of reinstalling 98 i don't see what i can do :(

Actually, I'm just posting to let Hapless know what a stupid, asinine post that was. Check the site: Det XP for Win98 Duh!! LOL!!! (I think I wet myself!) :D :D If you plant ice, you'll harvest wind...

Your problem is that you have an Intel CPU. :) (Just kiddin') IMHO, you need to install the correct AGP driver. You could try going to Device Manager->System Devices and removing the CPU to AGP controller. Reboot and it should re-detect it and install the approiate driver. YMMV...

Also, realize that your video drivers consist of three parts: NVidia drivers, Intel AGP driver, DirectX 8.0a.

Is that hapless or hopeless? open mouth....insert foot. Anyways boobers gave good advice, despite Nvidia's assurances many people (myself included) have had trouble from the XP's using a G2 card. BTW, if you read this and your G2 based card is better with the XP's good for you and refrain from telling us about it:p
