Bactrim, Cipro, Doxycycline...now what?!

Dedpuhl

Lifer
I am suffering from man problems (bacterial prostatitis). I have gone through the following antibiotics:

Bactrim - full course, no help.

Cipro (Ciprofloxacin) - 2 weeks, became violently ill (vomiting) twice. It did, however, reduce the symptons of my infection by roughly half.

Doxycycline - 2.5 weeks, became violently ill (vomiting w/ very bad diarrhea) two days ago, couldn't tell if infection was better/worse.

I am waiting for a callback from my urologist to see what he's going to suggest next. Has anyone else gone through a dozen antibiotics before one works?

This is the most frustrating sh!t i've ever gone through. I've always had problems with ear infections, but nothing like this. I'm almost certain the Cipro would've cured me if my body could've handled it...

Welcome to the wonderfull world of drug-resistant antibiotics. Things are going to get much worse over the next 10 years.

I assume you mean drug-resistant bacteria? The concept of drug-resistant antibiotics is confusing.

How old are you? I had bacterial prostatitis last year (when I was 19!) and took Cipro for about 45 days. Cleaned it right up. Been fine ever since.

🙁

I feel your pain.

Trust your doctor, as a group, urologists are some of the most competent physicians I've worked with.

Who'd a thunk😕

26. I made some progress while on Cipro. However, my body could not tolerate the drug.

I just got a callback from the doc. He is putting me back on Bactrim. Joy...

If it makes you feel better, here's my latest experience with antibiotics:

Diagnosed with strep throat and given a bicillin injection in my butt. (7 day timed release "golf ball" of a penicillin like drug) Woke up next day covered head to toe with a rash, it seems I am allergic to penicillin after all...

Got steroids and anti-inflammatories for the next week because my allergic reaction is now timed to last an even 7 days. (luckily I was already on claritin, reaction would have been much worse)

i had taken doxycycline and I noticed it makes me naucious if I don't eat before taking it. You're supposed to keep it an hour away from food, but that's still good... if you take doxycycline a few hours after eating, you're going to be real naucious.

May not work for your particular infection, but Garlic(either by eating cloves of Garlic or as a supplement)can help combat bacterial infections. If you ty cloves(best way), just note not to chew them much, just enough to make swallowing easy, just kinda flatten/crush the clove.
