Making the World's Longest BLT at Iron Barley, 8.9.09

The fifth-annual Tomato Fest at Iron Barley in South St. Louis wrapped up Sunday with owner Tom Coghill and a crew of 90 volunteers working to create the world's longest bacon-lettuce-and-tomato sandwich, at 179-feet, two-inches. (That's a lot of bacon -- 500 pounds of savory, crispy, delicious bacon.) The previous record was 169 feet.

I wonder if it's possible to make bacon from humans. I mean, humans and pigs are supposed to have a similar body layout, so wouldn't it make sense that bacon can be made from human bodies as well? I imagine human bacon would have a wonderful flavor. Perhaps, I'll get a chance do taste it during the coming apocalypse.

Bet we taste AWESOME.

Interesting. I have never heard this term while I was living with cannibals. Of course it's entirely possible that I mistranslated their words. My skills are lacking in that area, I must admit. Anyhow, I thank you for your contribution. Your name shall be remembered, my friend.

Oh no, I'm certain that I have never had human bacon. Usually they would serve slabs of meat, or stews. Heh, I actually introduced them to the concept of hamburger meat. They were thrilled. Let me tell you, there is nothing more glorious than a human burger. I wish I had thought of having bacon while I was there though. It is truly unfortunate that I missed such a wonderful opportunity.

Focaccia bread BLT? Fail.

Not saying Focaccia can't make a great sandwich, it can, but if your going to go through all that trouble to make the worlds largest BLT, might as well make it authentic. BLTs will forever be synonymous with the small ma and pa greasy spoon restaurants for me, and if you want to make an authentic one it has to be on toast!

That's right. A toasted English muffin in my case.
