That's right. Seaweed with twice the nutritional value of kale that tastes like bacon when fried. Personally, I will have my doubts until I actually taste it.

Researchers at Oregon State have patented a new strain of seaweed that tastes like bacon when it's cooked.
The seaweed, a form of red marine algae, looks like translucent red lettuce. It also has twice the nutritional value of kale and grows very quickly. Did we mention it tastes like bacon?

Forgot to add: and, it is hyper aggressive and when it accidentally gets flushed down a toilet, in 20 years it will cover the ocean floor completely.

I'm not thinking that sounds like a good thing. I doubt it'll have the texture of bacon, so who cares? Do you really want to eat salad that tastes like bacon?

The only thing that tastes like bacon, is bacon. Everything thing else is just "smoke flavoring" So tired of this fallacy.

Went to a traditional Chinese wedding banquet a long, long time ago. For those who have never been, it is all about eating. Dishes are served by courses. I forget how many but there were at least seven. This was traditional Chinese food, not what we are use to at our local restaurants. I was doing okay, until this one dish was served to the table. I inquired what what in it. I remember fish brains being one component. I chose the most palatable thing on the serving plate I could tolerate, which was seaweed. Tasted like sour celery. But I kept my vow. I have no idea how it was cooked.

Ya, if you want bacon, eat bacon. If you want a beef burger, don't eat a veggie burger. Don't be fooled by the man behind the curtain.

I was at one a long time ago & I remember a similar soup. Shark fin and fish heads, I tried some of it and was shocked how salty it was.

seaweed is pretty good. id try it. i eat toasted nori as a snack. seaweed salad is really good too if crisp.

then again ive made many mistakes either by purchasing the wrong type or preparing them wrong. apparently there is an art to re hydrating seaweed properly and a certain time frame when you are supposed cut/handle/eat it.

cant see how this would be that much different than collard greens cooked with that huge hunk of gelatinous pork in it.

Good although we're going to have a big issue with these sea-grown plants. Kale is making people sick because they're ingesting heavy metals that the plant is absorbing from the ocean.

Its the same deal with fish and mercury.

I'm not thinking that sounds like a good thing. I doubt it'll have the texture of bacon, so who cares? Do you really want to eat salad that tastes like bacon?

That is a big issue (the texture, it's what ruins most vegetable based meat alternatives, although plenty of them don't taste anywhere close either).

And yes I would, I put bacon on salads.

However, some of this stuff is actually getting really advanced. Supposedly they've made some burger replacement that even foodies can't tell the difference between it and normal hamburger. They looked at even the molecular composition so they could match texture. I think they even used that to grow lab meat that is "perfect" for the cuts (they can adjust the fat marbling and things like that).

No, no and no. I ate veggie burgers for 3 years. At least I hope I never do. I have remorse that I wasted and squandered my time and punished my taste buds eating veggie burgers. I won't be fooled again!!!!!!!! As for lab grown beef, I'm not going to eat beef frankenfood either. Ya, I'm sure it will taste just like chicken.

Veggie burgers are good, but they aren't beef burgers. They don't even approximate beef burgers aside from rough shape. Eat a veggie burger for it's own thing. If you're expecting something close to a beef burger, you'll be disappointed.

Some people smother there burgers in mustard or ketchup or mayo. Or some horrible combo. Like at McDonalds. If you have a good burger, you don't have to have any use of these condiments. I use to smother my veggie burger in A1 steak sauce. I convinced myself it worked, until I started looking at people's real burgers and had an epiphany. If you want the taste of real beef burger, order or make a real beef burger. If you want bacon, do likewise. No seaweed for me. I did that once and that is enough. I'm too old for that bullshit.

Stop getting suckered in by these PETA types and health snobs. I'd love to eat a burger right in front a PETA member, wiping my chin with my finger and then sucking on it with a big slurp. And you sex perverts, don't diss my post.

Yes, this. Some veggie burgers will have a nice crunch on the outside, with some sort of garlic/onion or other flavor. Not like a beef patty at all, but good.
