You do realize that SONY still sells PS2s, right? It's $129.99, if it means that much to you. The only fully BC next-gen system is the Wii and no HARDCORE gamer would be seen with one:roll:. The 360 is a joke when it comes to BC.

Your stance is pointless considering you'll buy that PS3 anyway.

1. Not everyone wants or has room for multiple systems.
2. Many gamers have Wiis

And not every gamer wants to pay for food but you play the hand you're dealt. Truth be told, most people that want BC don't even utilize it that much. Most use it occasionally. Is it that difficult to take out your PS2 and plug it into the necessary port every once in a while? No. Of course, you could always wait until SONY does what you want, but, you're taking a gamble instead of playing the hand in front of you.

If anything, it's better to search craigslist for a real cheap PS2 considering it won't get much playtime.

Look, whoever is bitching about BC have no one but themselves to blame. When the 60gb and 20gb PS3s were available, they held out, saying it was too expensive. When the 60gb dropped to $499, they still held out. Now that they have only an 80gb with software BC and a 40gb with no BC, they are bitching and saying they will wait. These people will continue to wait until until they can't wait no more. Either way, their "perfect" system came and went right before their eyes.

Why can't Sony decide on one or two SKUs and keep them in the market instead of the continuing of disabling SKUs. That is my tiff.

You're right. To hell with anyone who didn't have $500 in discretionary income lying around in the two months that the 60GB was for sale at that price point. What a bunch of losers that totally deserve to have some anonymous douchebag rip on them for no good reason!

It doesn't even matter if said douchebag is too stupid to realize that "just hooking up a PS2" is a lousy option for people who want HD upscaling. All hail SCEA for offering us hardware backwards compatibility for less than one fifth of their much-ballyhooed 10 year console lifecycle. Thank you, oh great Sony!

meh, I'm still not buying a PS3 until I have BC. Too many good PS2 games that I own and I've got enough consoles as it is. Until then, no compelling reason to get one for me as it's all about the games and the PS3 doesn't have much. Yet.

If you have $400 to burn on an entertainment system but can't afford to spend another $100, then you shouldn't be spending that money anyway.

And people wanting this or that is how we got into this problem in the first place. Just buy a new PS3 or look for an older model if you really want hardware BC AND HD upscaling:roll:. This isn't fucking Burger King. Again, play the hand you're dealt rather than waiting in vain.

If it never had it in the first place, how can it return? ;) :p
LOL not like the 40GB is gonna get bc anyways

It will get software BC. I'll put a few hundred dollars on that.

doubt it.

Well if what mlm said is true, it would be title-specific like on the 360. Meaning it would probably only be for games that they sell through PSN, and possibly only if you buy the game through PSN (I would even venture to change that possibly to another probably; I don't think Sony would add software BC to the 40 GB when BC was really the only thing that made the 80 GB worth the extra money that so many people have paid for it).

Sony has stated many times that they have no intentions on Emulating the PS2 Graphics Synthesizer.

But who knows if Sony wants to rewrite the Software emulation. The 40GB Doesn't have any PS2 Hardware compared to the 80GB that still has the PS2 Graphics Synthesizer.

Wow, you're right again! Show me where I can trade this $500 for a brand new PS3 with hardware backwards compatibility and I'm sold. Oh wait, your comment does nothing to solve the issue of how the $500 price point was only good for a couple of months?

Darn.

The reason that the PS3 BC is so nice is because it actually makes games look much, much nicer than they do on the PS2, via upscaling. I wouldn't consider a PS2 to be a replacement for functional PS3 BC.

As for using it or not: maybe some people don't, but there are still a fair few games being released on the PS2, and if you're a JRPG fan, you don't want to pass them up.

Yep, what if the 40 gig does have the hardware for BC. But its just *disabled* and the update will enable it ?

Never know I guess. Just have to wait and see.

Microsoft licensed the needed IP from nVidia specifically to do backwards-compatibility. This was big news back in the day.

The simple fact remains that the hardware solution was damn near perfect, and a much better deal for consumers. Glad I got my 60gb.

yeap. i grabbed my 60 gb version When i heard rumors that they might be takeing out PS2 support.

i don't have space for a ps3/ps2/wii/HDDVD (useless now though) etc.

not to mentiobn my ps2 was dieing. i moved it to my office/playroom. it plays some ps2 games but not all. but i can play my old PS1 (wich i have a bunch of rpg's) without problem.

just wish teh ps3 would come out with some great rpg's. i suck at fps games

It doesn't. Someone posted pictures of the two motherboards here some time back.

Not sure where Jules read Sony's "many" statements that they have no intentions of emulating the Graphic Synthesizer though.

I bet sony will NOT enable BC compatability in the fall. They WILL sell you PS2 D/L games that will play on the 40GB PS3. More $$$ for them.

Valkyria Chronicles and Disgaea 3 in the fall. Should be some good times, at least if you like the strat RPGs.

As for Sony having "hidden" BC hardware in the 40gb, that's not only the most wishful thinking I've ever heard, but it's been disproven already. We never know? Trust me, we do know.

The 360's software BC isn't perfect, but I don't think it's quite as bad as some people are making it out to be. I hope they continue to improve it in the future.

Correct. The 40GB Doesn't have any PS2 Hardware. The 80GB Still has the PS2 GPU but they took out the EE.

You would have to google for that.
