Backward compatibility of 8X?

Can AGP 8x cards be put into 4x or 2x slots? I got a new 'Built by ATi' Radeon 9500 pro and it's cover states that the requirements for the card are 8x/4x/2x.

yup, AGP 8x is backwards compatible to AGP 4x
not about AGP 2x though.....i think they have different voltages(1.5 vs. 3.3v)

I think there are both 1.5V and 3.3V cards at AGP 2X, however all new motherboards support only 1.5V (which is on all Radeon and GeForce cards, so don't worry).
