Backup -- Use Backup on W2K or Ghost

I have an extra hard drive for backing up my primary hard drive. What is best:
1. Use Win 2K Back-up or
2. Use Norton Ghost and ghost the drive every few weeks?

I like back-up on W2K but have never had a disaster and had to use it. I trust Ghost but would have to remember and it takes longer.

Any thoughts are helpful....

It depends on how much data need to be backed up.

If you need only small back up of system settings and such, you can use Roxio Go Back.

If you want a real back up of an entire drive then use Drive Image. This program rocks!

If you want large data back ups but not necessarily an entire drive back up, there is NTI backup Now! which works good too.

My goal is to be able to lose no more then 30 minutes of time if my primary hard drive crashes. I have "Ghosted" a drive before and can do that with Ghost but am unsure of the Backup function in W2K since I have not used it.

Mainly I am just looking for ease of getting my system back working as before if my HD crashes (even though the last crash I had was in 1997....).

IMO the best way to use ghost is to back up only your OS/apps with it. For large amounts of data it is a bit slow.

I create nice clean install with only OS and critical apps (no games) and then ghost that partition onto CD (2 is usually enough).

This just leaves data. I keep it all in a seperate partition. You can use wndows backup, but the only advantage compared to copying the files over that way (if it's just data) is automation. So I use windows backup at work, but at home I just copy all the files onto another HD every few weeks.

I basically do the same thing, but I use Drive Image 5 because it is way better than ghost. On 2 cd's I have 2 gigs of compressed WinXP with all of my essential apps.
