Backup to CDR

Hi,

Does anyone know of any backup software (free if possible) for Win2K which will backup to CDR?

Many thanks.

I've never tried this myself, but I've heard many people say it works.

You'll need DirectCD and the included backup program in Win2k (start-->programs-->accessories-->system tools-->backup). Format a CD in DirectCD format, then schedule a backup using the DirectCD drive as the destination drive.

DirectCD isn't free, and the Windows 2000 backup program doesn't support CD-R as a target. Sorry. Don't know of a free way. I imagine there are one or two free writers out there, though. I used the nasty Adaptec/ROXIO software (of which DirectCD is a part) that came with my drives until I went to Windows XP. Now I use the native CD writing software in the OS and Nero 5.5.5.1. But neither an upgrade to Windows XP nor Nero are free, either.

Edit / PS: You can choose a local hard drive as the target of the Windows 2000 backup program, then burn the backup file to CD-R or CD-RW. Of course you have to limit the size of the file to the CD capacity or find a way to span the discs. Good luck!
