Backup software?

I have an external HDD on which I would like to keep a mirrored copy of a folder on my internal HDD.

Setting up a nightly batch xcopy produces memory errors (apparently this is a problem with xcopy). Additionally, it seems like a waste to re-copy even the files that have not changed since the last copy operation took place.

Can anyone suggest a good method or software program to accomplish this?

you could take a look at Synctoy (on the Microsoft website) which will only do changed files and can be scheduled using the Scheduled Tasks app.

Back before I installed a backup server that uses smb and rsync, I used to use a program called syncback. Was/is free. Not sure if its still around now or not, but I probably have the exe somewhere on my network if you're interested.

I use the free edition of SyncBack by 2brightsparks. It allows for setting up scheduled sync and backup profiles.

I searched for this topic and didn't want to create a new thread unnecessarily. This seems to be the topic I'm looking for. I'm currently looking at Cobain, but want to make sure I'm on the right path.

What I have : Two work PCs with shared drives (WinXP Pro SP3 on each), one drive is shared for general use, one drive is for storage of Peachtree 2009 data files. Connected via crappy AT&T T1 line, static IPs.

One home PC (at my bosses house), that I've got VNC running on, and has an external drive with enough space to store all of the contents of the above drives (and then some). Connected via fast Uverse fibre. Also running XP Pro SP3.

What I want to do : find software to install that will sync the contents of work shared drives to the home PC's external drive. Ideally, would like it to do some kind of comparative analysis so that after the initial backup is completed, only new files/changes on the file shares have to be copied.

Is anyone running a similar setup and have a good recommendation for me? I'd appreciate it, thanks!

i tried Toucan once, but i didnt like it. i've been using the free version of SynBack for about a year now. very good. SyncToy is good too.
