Backup questions...

I would like to make daily backups of many of the files on my computer. I have checked into tape drives but they are all pretty expensive. I am wondering if there is any software that can run in the background somehow and wake up at certain times, designated by the user, and back up certain files, designated by the user, to a CD-RW.

eg - I can tell it to back up all documents with a .doc, .xls, .jpg, .mpg, etc... at 3 AM daily. I would then just make sure that a CD is in the drive. This app would be in the startup folder so that it would activate any time the computer is booted. Obviously, the computer would need to be left on during times when a backup is to take place.

If anyone knows of software that can do this, please reply and let me know what it is.

Thank you.

I have found the easiest way to backup is to just use another hard drive in the PC. Then all you have to do is drag and drop the files onto it and it will be backed up very quickly. You can pick up a 20GB drive very cheaply these days, and it doesn't have to be a 7200rpm one either.

You could set up Windows Task Scheduler to run a Batch file, if you know how to write them...
