Backup of Microsoft DVD

Hi,

My company is a Microsoft Partner, so it receives all products from Microsoft.

Instead of asking for a specific DVD and moving the original disk around the desk, I would like to make a backup so to avoid any problems.

The thing is, the DVD has a total data reported of 6Gb ... I don't know if it's double layer DVD, or if they messed up with data to "fake" a total 6Gb.

So I have some questions:

1# How can I check if a DVD is double layer or single layer?

2# I can't burn double layer, so assuming the data fit's into a single layer and they messed up the bits (i will be sure when I check if it's DL or not), what software can I use to achieve bit-by-bit backup and transfer all that "fake" info?

This DVD is usefull because it contains all operating systems we use for development and testing, and so they are all on the same media. It would not be of such a perfect usage if I split info to 2-3 DVDs ... so a clean backup would be the best option.

Thank you

You might get in trouble for asking how to backup anything M$ related here.

Side note read up on DVD5 and DVD9,

DVD5 = 1kb - 4.474GB Single layer
DVD9 = anything 4.474 - 8.xxxGB Dual layer (not double no such thing) this is the M$ disk you have

Eh! Dual Layer ... not Double as I stated above :)

Is there a way of checking if it's a Dual Layer by other means than checking total DVD content data length? Like some software that can check if media is in fact DL.

whoo..thank goodness y'all cleared that up for me....I thought I might have missed some tech advances in the past week or something. I sure others were confused too by the "Double-Layer DVD"

lol

The only thing I can think of is to check the serial/product number on the DVD (should near the center), and google it.
Nero or alcohol may help, but they may just read the blank media correctly.
I think if it's 6gigs, it sounds like a DL DVD. As for true bit for bit copy, that been discussed everywhere. The best thing for that would be alcohol. I would just ask MS for another copy as a backup....but that's just me and I am smarta$$ as my earlier comments show. :D
