Backup: NAS drive?

Hey ladies,
my mom wants to backup some stuff on her computer. So I started to think maybe I should get a NAS drive so we could backup her data and also some stuff of mine. What would be nice is, if I could somehow "disconnect" the harddisk while it's not backing up stuff, to prevent that stuff gets deleted or touched by a virus.

Any input is very appreciated.

An external USB drive would be ideal for your needs, look for something a product like this <100$

for only 2 computers? USB hard drive.

when moving the hard drive around gets annoying (anywhere from 3-10 or more computers on the network), then look into a NAS or simple file server with RAID.
