Is anybody interested in helping me backup geocities? I know a lot of people don't like the site because of poorly formed websites but sometimes I've come across old pages that actually had useful bits of information (specifically about older pieces of hardware). I want to backup the entire site before they go away for good but I don't know how to approach this issue and I have posted about this question before though related to something else and I received no feedback.

How many hundreds of terabytes of storage do you have laying around?

How many terabytes do you think the yahoo website has? How likely is it for yahoo to just allow me to get a copy of all the sites from their servers? Maybe one day I'll host all of the stuff on the internet kind of like a museum.

Not only does the wayback machine do a shitty job, they haven't gotten all of the pages, especially the pages I was interested in. I'm mostly interested in the pages that relate to science and being able to download executables and whatnot but beside that I'd still like to have all or as much as I can download of it.

There is no geocities website in existence with unique info that is relevant to your life.

i think it's a good idea but to evaluate the project we need to know how big it is.

how big is it ? 1, 10, 100 TB ?

I think to get any idea of that, you'd need someone inside geocities.

On one page it said that Geocities had like 12 TB worth of data capacity back in 1999, however Geocities didn't grow too much from then on. 12 TB of disk space is easily doable today (thank god).

Or at least there are very few. If you want to back up a few sites, learn about wget. Or perhaps you want a GUI.

A proper funeral? Geocities is on the TOP of my list of sites to NEVER visit. It is a graveyard for sites made by people that don't know better.
