Someone asked me how to do this and I'm stuck.

They want to convert their widescreen DVD (gives 'em a headache) to fullscreen. Is there an all in one solution that will rip the dvd, change the ratio (i know they will lose info on both sides of the 16:9 screen), and put it back on a blank dvd?

thanks.

What a crock of shyte!

People who forsake true widescreen in favour of Pan-and-Scan don't deserve to have more than a VCR in their homes.
Shame on you for posting the request for such abhorrent practices.

As for the unfortunate ones who want "FullScreen" (Foolscreen, indeed!) tell them there's a function called "Zoom" - most players have it! - which would allow them to crop the sides of the image and fill a conventional television screen.

If they don't have that function on their DVD player, tough luck. Either get used to widescreen - it's the ONLY way the films were supposed to be seen - or buy an el cheapo DVD player from Wal-Mart, which will zoom the hell out of the image at 2x or 4x.
