backup data

<< I back up about 150GB each night to SDLT. In my sleep. Wheeeeeeeeeeee......... >>

You have an SDLT? Ihave a question for you, are they compatible with the DLT IV tapes? We have 2 DLTs here and are looking into an SDLT to cover new servers we will be adding, but the cost of tapes is insane. I toought $90 a tape for DLT IV was bad!

I backup about 30GB here at the office. We also have a 100/200GB backup running at the CoLo. Very cool and fast.

<< i just backed up 35GB of data on cdr. so boring >>

I had to do that a couple of months ago with about 25Gb of MP3s - took at 40 cds grrr!

I was backing up my 35 gigs of data about 3 months ago, and it got through about 30 cdr's when it told me: Error, Disk Writing, then rebooted.. %*(@#%&@*( %#O%#( COMPUTER %&@&%@*& YOU! Now I'd had to start all over again 🙁

It's my understanding that they are read-only compatible but I haven't had the occassion to test it yet. I left the old 35/70 drive installed just in case, but I'm not too worried about it. Been using the SDLT for almost a year now, backups & restores and have no complaints (well, a minor one: It's an external and occassionally the system forgets that it's installed, gives read errors on the tapes until I reboot - maybe once every four months or so.)

I tend not to back up every single file on my computer...just the important stuff like homework files, saved games. Basicly anything that I can't replace. I also don't back up my mp3 collection to CD-RW, because, I can always rebuild it (and I also have it stored on my laptop as well 🙂 )

I can do a backup to 1 CD-RW at the end of every month (I'm going to do my feburary backup tomorrow) and rest easy 🙂
