Backup Copy of Documents to CDRW is "read only"

I periodically backup the "My Documents" folder to a CD and recently I tried to restore the files and I noticed that they are all "read only". Is this normal? Is there a way to prevent this. During the copy and paste process I invariably run into a file that cannot be copied due to a "inpage operation error" and it halts the rest of the copy process. At that point I have to go back and matchup what did not copy... A real pain... Any suggestions?

Should I be restoring the files another way other than copy and pasting?

thanks,

That is a function of the CD burning software. In general, all files on a commercial CD and CDRs is read only because they cannot be written to. They can be copied with Explorer, but the copies will be 'R." However, those attributes can be changed with the "-R" command.

CDRW files should not carry the "R" attribute since they can be written to. The attributes can be changed.

Copy and Paste is not recommended for working with such files. Use Explorer . . . select the file and then using the right click, drag it to the desired location and select COPY HERE.
