backlit keyboards

looking to buy a backlit keyboard (wireless or usb, doesn't matter); i do a lot of my work/gaming in a dark room, & hate having to squint & lean in close to read the characters.
had been considering the Saitek gaming keyboard, but decided against it since the characters aren't illuminated. Ideally would like the new microsoft ED 8000, but it won't be released until Q1 2007 (and will be a couple hundred bucks...). personally think the Deck keyboards look pret-ty lame. would like to order teh logitech G11, but nobody knows when it's coming out & it's been delayed for a looong time, plus it's friggin' BIG...
anyone know of any good, sharp-looking backlit keyboards? it's for use on my client-suite computer, so i can't really go buying anything goofy, with, like, street fighter 2 graphics all over it or big plastic alien heads sticking out...

thanks!

I'd suggest, as an alternate, a nice soft back light for your monitor which would be easier on your eys and usually illuminates the keyboard quite well. Here's my setup.

G15

QFT. And the newest drivers give a lot of functionality to the LCD, like a POP3 checker that lets you scan the title of any new email and delete if if you don't want it. So cool checking email from your keyboard.

I was at Target the other day and saw a G11 on the shelves. Interesting because Logitech says they aren't out. G11 is a G15 without the display for $30 less. Although online you can probably get a G15 for same price as the G11 locally.

Both of these keyboards are large. The eclipse2 is much smaller.
Both keyboards also have 18 programable keys for macros.
They also have cable routing for your mouse and 2 USB ports on board so you can plug in a Mouse and something else right to the keyboard. Nice feature.

I think I want to get one of these, but the keybard drawer built into my desk would leave me with 3" or so for my mouse 🙁.

dont have either discussed here, but if i were in the market i'd get the saitek eclipse.

I have a G15 and love it. The setup for programming the "G" keys is just beautiful, and exceptionally useful. I don't use the LCD much, but I usually hae a script for monitoring hd space of hard drives up there.

man i'm such a sucker for gizmo's.... i wasnt even remotely thinking about buying a new keyboard and then i saw this thread, and saw the g15...and i just ordered one.

Lol, you won't regret it! 😀

I wanted a G15, but my keyboard drawer isn't wide enough. Picked up the Saitek Eclipse II and am very impressed. I especially like the color-switching options (blue when the Colts play, red when IU plays, purple while drinking wine 😉 )
