I think many LCD's have that problem, some worse than others. Lots of people around here have complained about backlight issues with the 2005FPW, so it's definitely possible for the 2405FPW to have the same problems on some panels. You can have Dell replace it for you if it really bothers you (and for that much money, I can see why it would.)
I have a 2005FPW myself - I don't have the "backlight problems" in that the lighting is uneven on a "black" screen, but it is most definitely not "black" - which is more noticeable when the room is dark. I can live with it though.
From the pictures, it doesn't look too bad, but it's hard to be sure; if it's worse than what's in the pictures, maybe there's a problem with the monitor.
Most LCDs aren't completely uniform brightness, especially with black screens, in the dark.
Well, after looking more closely at my LCD at work and my wife's old NEC.. I am thinking this is just a sideeffect of lcds.
The pros, the sharpness, clarity ect.. outweigh the cons for the most part. I also noticed that watching a movie on it, the "backlight glow" is almost non existant compared to running a game.
the pics you posted are NOTHING compared to what I have personally experienced on the 2005fpw.
I'm not expecting perfection out of an lcd regarding backlight uneveness. The 2005fpw was easily the worst I've seen of any lcd monitor.
Something is messed up at dell with the 2005fpw. There easily could have been a recall if the standard is "do other lcd's of similar size/caliber have this problem produced by other manufacturers?"
Those pics don't look too bad. My Samsung 930B is worse, with noticeable backlight bleed along the top edge. 'Course, I'm returning mine for a replacement today, so I guess it's just up to personal preference. With the cost of large LCDs, I tend to be pretty picky
