Backing Up to CD-RW On WinXP

Is it possible to use the backup software that comes with Windows XP to schedule nightly backups to a rewritable CD? If so, does the backup software automatically erase the rewritable CD before the backup, or does the user have to do that manually? How well does backing up to CD-RW work? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Nope, it's not possible to do this.

The filesystem driver for the CD is a readonly filesystem. While it is possible to write to the media, it can't be done through the filesystem. Therefore, you can't back up to a file on the CDRW media.

Make sense?

That makes sense, I guess. I thought XP's backup might support CD-RW backups since CD-RW features were built into XP. Also, there are many 3rd party backup software packages that support CD-RWs.

I asked about this in an IRC channel before I posted my question here, and they all said XP supported backing up to CD-RW. Maybe they were just pulling my leg. 🙁

i would like to know also if there is something that i can do to schedule. so far i've made a ghost image of my install and that's about it. but i would like to back up everything on my other HDs without having to use Nero and having to select everything and stuff. any such program?
