Hi I just replaced my 30gb notebook drive with a 100gb, and bought an enclosure and put the old drive in there. Now I want to copy my original cds (like starcraft, office 2003, etc) that I might need from time to time so I don't have to carry them with me. For example, if I want to play starcraft, instead of having to carry the cd I can just load it with daemon tools off the external and play it like that. Or if I need to update my office, and it asks for the original cd, I can do the same thing.

I am NOT asking about warezed software, these are original, legitimate cds that I paid for and own, but I want to ask if there is any special procedure other than putting the cd in and running say alcohol 120 or nero and copy it to an image? like copy protection, etc...

thanks for your help!

thanks for the link... I had been using an image of starcraft without any problems before... is this a problem with newer games? what about application software (office, visual studio .net, etc). if so, what a bunch of bs!!

From my experiance with newer games, yes. With UT2004 and CoD at least. Office I haven't had problems with and no problems with photoshop. I haven't installed visual studio.net however.

Alot of the newer games are coming up with better copy protection schemes and blacklisting programs like Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, and CloneCD. While the protection can be circumvented eventually, I've found it's generally easier and quicker to use a NoCD patch for newer games where Daemon Tools + CD images doesn't work.

Why would you need CD images of applications you have already installed?

You don't need a nocd crack if you have the cd image on your pc and its loaded with daemon. It might be easier, but just to clarify that you don't need them.

Like BlueWeasel said, Alcohol is really good at make perfect images and copies of games that are older. But the new games are getting smarter and have got new protection that they haven't quite cracked yet. With your new software, you may have to carry the cds around if you can't find a nocd patch.

I need the cds for office and such for updates, and games like starcraft require me to put in the cd in order to play :|

but it looks like the nocd cracks are probably the way to go, thanks for the great idea! what should I do with the 30 gig hard drive now?

I couldn't get the one for starcraft to work though. it updated itself to 1.12b and the one on the site is 1.12.... i'll google around and see if I can find the 1.12b. thanks again!

man I take it back. all the cracks (for starcarft, warcraft at least) require me to copy the cd content to the hard drive which is what the hell I was doing anyway. this blows, I'm better off just downloading the warezed ones!!
