Backing up downloaded MS updates??

Getting ready to change to a bigger hard drive.. Is there anyway A Guy can back up all the updates for windoes xp pro so You don't have to download them all again?

Not unless you have downloaded and saved the installer files for the update. There is no way to 'backup' installed updates really without saving the registry, all system files, basically your entire Windows install/configuration (since it would be extremely time-consuming to figure out which files are 'updated' and which are not).

BTW, you can download any updates from Windows Update as an individual installer.

I?m a network administrator. I see that the patch is available on Windows Update, but I?d like to download it and update my users? systems. Can I do this?

Yes. You may by following these steps:

Go to the Windows Update web site.
In the left pane, under Other Options, select ?Personalize Windows Update?.
Under ?Set Options for Windows Update?, select the checkbox for ?Display the Link to Windows Update Catalog under ?See Also??, then click ?Save Settings?.
Go back to the Windows Update web site.
In the left pane, under ?See Also?, select ?Windows Update Catalog?.
Select ?Find Updates for Microsoft Operating Systems?.
Select the operating system and language of your choice.
Select ?Critical Updates and Service Packs?.
Select all of the patches you?d like to download, then click on ?Go to download basket? to download them.

thanks. now how deo I tell which version of windows I have.. I have windows XP PRO with out the service pak 1....

I am not sure I understand... You answered the question yourself. The version of Windows is Windows XP Pro... Unless you meant something different?

okay lets try again. When I get to the place to select operating systems I get several options for XP they are..

win xp 64-bit edition
win xp 64-bit edition rtm
win xp 64-bit edition sp1
and win xp rtm
win xp sp1....

so since I have pro pre service pack 1.. is my version the 64 bit edition rtm??

No...Unless you have an AMD-64 or Intel Itanium processor.

I would go with the XP sp1. And get SP1 while your at it. that one IS seperately downloadable.
