backing up DOS based program

we have an old computer system that's DOS based. there's a built in backup utility, but it's cumbersome and uses 3.5" floppies. the program itself is about 40MB+ with the database.

is there an easier way to back up the program? ZIP disks? can USB thumbdrives be used under DOS?
 
Parallel/Serial cable and Carbon Copy. Thats what I used 20 years ago. Im sure there is some shareware prog out there that will help you.
 
Zip disks store 100MB so that will work if you can find either a parallel port drive -or- an internal IDE drive with DOS drivers (check whehther Iomega made DOS IDE drivers).

A WTB in FS/FT might turn up cheap zipness, else eBay.
 
If you can get away with taking the system offline for a few minutes, it would be pretty easy to use Acronis or one of the other CD bootable backup utilities to just capture the state of the whole disk. If you can't, though, that is out.
