I want to upgrade my rooted G Flex 2 from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1, but first I have to restore it to factory or else I get a security error while attempting the OTA update. There are no custom ROMs.

What's the best way to completely back up my phone and restore it after the upgrade? Is that even possible?

Titanium Backup. How one gets rooted and doesn't know about this app is beyond me.

Well it's decent for app backup, but it isn't good for whole device backup. Nandroid FTW there. Also, sometimes people have issues /w TB and that is due to things like restoring a app your backed up in KK days to a LP rom, the app could setup things quite differently between the 2 OS's.

Glossed over the whole device backup part, there. My bad.

I used to make them like I'm supposed to, but I have never once needed to restore from one. Yay Nexus line.

This would then make OP's question stupid. Restoring a nandroid will just just roll them back to the older version of Android.

I think that what they really want actually is Titanium Backup.

How do you do transfer app data over if you're not rooted? This part I have never been able to grasp on Android without rooting. It just seems like a pretty painful process.

As much as we want to hate on iTunes, it was very easy for me to migrate my iPhone 5 to 6 even without iCloud backups.

You use helium if you're not rooted.

Won't matter anymore once you get a phone running Marshmallow, anyway.
