back up software

What do you mean?

Do you just want to put in another hard drive, and get your data backed up automatically?

Have you tried RAID1?

I've never felt raid1 as a backup solution but just as a means of keeping the system running when a drive fails. It would not help in the case of a virus attack or user screwups or accidental deletion.

If you want to backup the entire drive, Norton Ghost works like a champ.

True, but wouldn't hurt in addition to an extra drive just for data, but then that would protect against someones stealing the computer.

Best stick with an external drive, eh?

the reason I don't use RAID1 as a backup is because I am more worried about something that will take out the whole PC (lightning strike, house fire, etc) more than a drive dying. I keep an external drive in a fire safe when I am not physically doing the backup. (Nero's Back it Up works well to backup my data)
