Is there a way to make all things added into a particular file automatically saved to a place on an ethernet network? Said differently, can I have two folders automatically synched with each other so I can have a backup if something goes wrong with one? I run windows xp on all the computers.

PS- Also is there a way that I can block a computer from the internet while still allowing it to be on a local ethernet? These computers have lots of important data and I can't afford to lose information on them (hence the redundant backups.)

you could backup data automatically using one of these methods:

it could be scheduled, or done manually.

> if the LAN includes boxes that can access the internet via some router/gateway, then you could run a firewall blocking everything you don't need on the non-internet boxes, and while they're not in use, unplug the ethernet cable. (you could run the noninternet boxes on a seperate switch, so you would only have to unplug 1 cable)

there remains a problem. if one of the internet boxes are compromised, they could probe the noninternet boxes, but if they're using a firewall to block everything you don't need for them, you may find this acceptable.

if you wanted to go further, run an IDS, configure it to your liking (google some guides), and if it ever detects something unacceptable, it could be configed to automatically disable the network interface for itself only, or try to disable the whole network.
