Get rid of the new IDE drivers. I didn't know about the "parking" issue, but they broke my Quicktime playback pretty badly. I got lots of stutters in the video playback on large files like the big version of Animatrix web cartoons, and a friend at work got the same issue with his machine when he tried the new drivers as well. I switched back to the old MCP2 driver and life was good once more. We'll probably see a 2.43 version soon with fixed drivers.

There is another forum on the interweb that is devoted to NVidia nForce chipsets and the driver team is paying close attention to the feedback they get there in regards to performance and stability. There was a mighty outcry about the 2.41 drivers there and 2 days later the 2.42s were released. The outcry didn't die off after that so a day later the 2.42s were pulled and the 2.03s were reinstated as the primary supported drivers.

There has been a report from a close associate of the nForce driver team that said that a newer set will be released in the not too distant future and that it will be of better quality. We can only hope that this is true.

so wuts wrong w/ the new nforce drivers (2.42) other than the IDE problem, which was removed in the 2.42 release? i just did a whole clean install of my system w/ the 2.42. should i go back to 2.03?.... i'd hate to have to do that again...

Dang i love my patience. I didnt do no clean install (though was tempted). When people said that a minor thing was wron with the 2.41 i understood: it aint gonna be good (life is always like this: gotta pay attention to them omens). I was right: 2.42 came out within days. And now i thought: something should be wrong with this one too. Gonna give it 3 days. It took it 2...
