Back panel audio not working! Help!!

i know i posted my first one in the wrong place, but i think i got it right this time. 🙂

merry christmas guys. i figured i would come here in hope of finding any possible solution to my problem. (yes i am extremely new! 😀) so i ordered myself an ASUS Sabertooth x58 motherboard about 2 weeks ago. when i finally got it all together, (today because if missing parts / trouble etc.) i discovered that my rear audio is not working. now here is the catch. when i plug in any audio device to the back, i can't hear anything but, it does detect something being plugged in. when i plug my headphones into the front audio jacks, it detects them and gives me sound. if anyone knows anything about this, i would really appreciate the help. i was referred here by a friend on a gaming forum.

computer specs:
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Intel Core i7 950 (3.06 GHz - stock)
OCZ 3x2GB triple channeled ram
ASUS Sabertooth x58 motherboard
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB 7200 RPM 6 gb/s

Did you install the 64-bit driver for your audio??

Open up the device manager and see if you see any yellow exclamation marks for your audio device.

Start | Run "devmgmt.msc" (do not type the quotes).
 
....i can't hear anything but, it does detect something being plugged in.

How do you know this? Does Windows give you some sort of a message? Please be specific.

Also, go into the control panel and open up the Sound applet. Click on the 'Playback' tab. What is the default device? It should have the green checkmark next to it.
 
yes windows detects something was plugged in. i also tried to disable front panel audio in my bios but there is no option for that. i seem to be stuck but as i read more and more, i am learning its a common issue.

Why in the world would you want to do that? Crazy. And I'm not surprised there was no such option in the BIOS! If you wanted to do that, all you had to do was disconnect the audio connector on the motherboard. And doing so is NOT going to fix your problem.

Like I asked before - HOW do you know this? Does it give you a message? What is the message? Have you looked through the control panel like I mentioned in my last post?

You're talking in circles and I can barely make heads or tails of what you're saying. Hopefully someone else can make sense of all this.
 
sorry im not being too clear. when i plug in anyhting (mic, headphones etc.), a popup shows up from Realtek saying "You just plugged a device into the audio jack."
