Back pain

So yesterday I woke up to a small amount of back pain and today it was worse. I don't know if it's a muscular issue or whatever, but it's pretty concentrated around 2 discs in my lower back. Movement isn't hampered too much but it certainly isn't fun.

I doubt that given this description anybody can tell me what's up, but who knows. I'll try to get looked at by a doctor tomorrow or Wednesday.

Have you done anything that you'd think would make it hurt (muscular or not?) Perhaps you've been sleeping differently (stress, caffeine, etc inducing odd sleep patterns?) We'll wait for eits to come in 'cause this is his domain. I'm just asking questions 'cause I'm curious. If I sleep wrong, my back/neck get crazy sore.

How do you sleep?

On your front is THE WORST WAY TO SLEEP, really hyper extends your back = bad on your back!

Well, as chance would have it, I went to see my dentist (a friend from my CF box) and he referred me to a chiro in the same complex. The guy took a look at it and said it wasn't anything too extreme or neurological (no disc concerns), just some tightened muscles. Past that, I'll just wait for it to heal - took today off and tomorrow's Cindy, which shouldn't put too much stress on it.

As for how I sleep or any possible causes - nothing I could think of would directly affect that part of my back, and I sleep on my back and don't move an inch all night.

i'm of the school of thought that when muscles are tight, it's because of a slight misalignment. the misalignment causes a slight instability, which causes the brain to tell the muscles to tighten up to increase stability. it's kinda like when you get in a fender bender or get hit in football... your neck gets stiff because your spinal alignment went out of whack and your body tries it's best to produce it's own cervical collar to limit your motion to decrease the instability. if you adjust the unstable segments, the pain goes away and the muscle tightness subsides.

I had back problems that had been getting progressively worse over the years, and it wasn't until I started doing stretches every other day that my back problems basically disappeared. I do about 4 different stretching moves for my back 3 times a week, along with some abdominal work, and problem went away completely.

more than likely, the problem's still there. it's just that you've balanced out the tensions on your spine by stretching tight muscles on one side and strengthening weak muscles on the other.
