"Back" not working?

When I respond to a message, it takes me back to the thread showing my reply. If use IE 6 "Back" button, I go back to the original thread. Then, no matter how many times I hit "back" again, I stay there. I used to be able to back up to the thread index. If I use the down arrow next to the button, the top 2 entries are "Responding to thread", and I can't back out of these. I have to go down to the third entry (the thread index) to break out. Sorry if I lost you, kinda convoluted I know.

Anyway, is it just me/my system or is anyone else having trouble using "Back" after responding to a thread. (Used to work for me.)

Edit: OK, does it for posting a message, too!

Back doesnt have anything to do with the forums I'm afraid, thats a IE thing with caching etc... remember the forums are just html pages :) Your browser handles where it was and where to go.

Thanks for reading, RalfHunter and Zuni. I was afraid the problem might be local to my machine. IE 6 just seems to get less and less reliable the more it is patched!

same thing just started with me today, after I post in a thread the back button in IE6 just takes me back to the thread I posted in.

Just like anandfan's problem.

IE6 fully patched running XP Pro

I found a reference to a similar problem in the MS database:
Cannont Navigate Back

Talks about getting stuck in an infinite loop if the URL includes three slashes (http:/// ), but it also says this should show up in the History file (don't see it in my history).

Also, googled some other references to "navigate back", but none seem to apply. I also confirmed this is a problem on another WinXP machine here at home.

I think I found the problem one of the latest two patches for windows did this, it has done this my wife corporate web site too, the way to fix it is to lower the security level by one setting for internet. (I left mine where it was due to paranoia, but to each his own)

Yet anther "patch" that creates more problems than it fixes.

Same here on every PC I use.

It seems just like one of those Javascript pages that is supposed to forward you to another page without delay. Normally, you only have to click fast to get past it. However, the problem is most apparant with my laptop, for witch I use Alt+Left to go back frequently. I have to fight and press it OVER AND OVER AND OVER in rapid succession. If I posted more than once or posted and edit in the same thread, the shortcut is practically useless. I'm usually only able to go back a couple pages before I give up. I've NEVER had to "fight" so harshly with Javascript pages...

mozilla..It works great, so give it a try.

Actually, I've tried Firebird a couple of times. Wasn't happy with the lack of support for MIME types. Seems that the developers are more concerned with being standards compliant than MS IE work-alike. Firebird does have lots of nice features, though, if the MIME problem doesn't bother you.
