You must be joking. This is the discriminating lie the established church as for example the roman catholic church uses to prevent separation of the by the church created dogma. A most effective means to scare people into denying changes that may weaken the church. It is just another abusive tool that fills people with fear and ignorance. This can be traced back when you see the separate Christian movements and the way the roman church was appalled by these emerging views because of the possible loss of the power base. The question you ask has been asked since the dark ages. Luckily wise people are gaining momentum and the ignorant will disappear.

It's just vague enough to apply in a wide variety of ways. At one time the Pope/RC were widely thought to be it, more recently many thought it was the Soviet Union/Communism. Personally I think the US or even Democracy fit the description as well as anything else.

The truth of the matter is, that it's just BS. You can wedge anything or anyone in there. You need to first not like it/them, then they are some cosmic evil you spend your life defeating. I've sung this song a couple dozen times in different places and with groups with vastly different belief systems. I don't think any two people ever shared a common vision of what Babylon is but they sure sing it loudly and with feeling, each knowing well what Babylon means to them.

If you an get past season one-which I liked-the second and third seasons really heat up!! By the 5th season you will be jumping up and down during some climactic events!!
