My friend and I are arguing over which is better. DS9 obviously has a larger fanbase than B5, however, B5 fans tend to be more rabid about the quality of B5's storyline.

If you have the time, I'd like to hear why you think your choice is better.

IMHO B5 had a better storyline and DS9 had Jadzia (Terry Farrel - ).

TNG didnt have an overall story arc, just an adventure a week type of deal.

Throwing in TNG is going to dilute the DS9 votes big time...

B5 had better stories and a much stronger multi-year story arc that wasn't just made up as they went along.

B5 also had more imaginative ailens (not just prosthetic foreheads) and much more imaginative ship designs.

Though everybody wants prosthetic foreheads on their real heads.

DS9, but AFTER the first few seasons. The first few seasons had a few good episodes, but for hte most part they were no good...kinda like all the the ST series.

DS9. The acting and FX are far superior. Story wise, B5 is on a grander scale and isn't really about the development of people, it's about good vs. evil
DS9 was ultimately about the charcaters and their lives and their sacrafices. People evolved in DS9, in B5 it seemed more like they stayed fairly static and never changed, except for Delyn(sp?). She grew hair, but was still a whiney bitch.

I dunno about that. I havent watched it in years but didn't the Dr. Franklin (?), Ivanova (?), G'kar and Londo evolve quite a but over the course of the series?

G'Kar and especially Londo evolved over the series.

DS9 had a "story arc" that they only addressed randomly. They also sat at the wormhole, THE ENTIRE STAGING GROUND OF THE FOUNDERS and never got attacked. B5 had a storyline that was advanced in almost every episode to some degree.

B5 had a crap budget though.

B5 FTW. My favorite Sci-Fi series so far.

It's an excellent story with excellent character development and you can tell that from the beginning they knew where they were going.

No the special effects were not as good, but so what?

They are one of the few space-based sci-fi shows that really took into account more realistic physics such as inertia and also didn't ignore the z-axis when they were flying around.

DS9 was just too up and down. There were some good stories, but there were a lot of bad ones. And a lot of soap opera and inadequate planning. B5 is the most thoroughly planned and best executed story arc in the history of science fiction. Until the season 2 finale of BSG, I thought it might have some competition.

There are a lot of cheesy B5 episodes, to be sure. Especially in the first season or two. But the scope of what JMS did is just too impressive for stuff like DS9 to challenge it.

DS9>>TNG>>>>>>>B5

I was never really a big fan of B5. I'm not sure why, but I just never really liked it. Star Trek, usually, has a good story to it and pretty good, if not very good, effects.

Couldn't stand either, and can list too many reasons why both sucked. Mainly, you could put the actors in any daytime soap opera without their alien make-up, and it would still make sense.

TNG was vastly/conceptually superior to both, and could breakaway from it's etablished plot-line and still tell a good story now and then. That to me has always been the standard litmus of defining a good sci-fi series.

They had that season of continous war where they were always getting attacked. That season was awsome.
