How did we go from the 'Greatest Generation' to this? The sense of entitlement from such numbers of baby boomers is appalling to me. You expected to be in better health? Did you, I don't know, do anything to make sure you'd be healthy in you middle ages? Exercise, healthy diet, etc? Expected a solid job? Good house? News flash! You don't expect those things. You earn them. They aren't supposed to fall into your lap.

Actually your generation is at a distinct disadvantege as all previous generations actually were able to socially interact with others in person instead of depending on the Internet for it. If Facebook, Twitter and Youtube were to cease to exist you'd (not you personally) diffenently be lost.

Jesus, so seldom do we see the inner state of those full of criticism. I said above that those who put down others are scum, but that isn't quite the fact. They put down others because they feel like scum. I glanced at your story and feel fairly sure that what is happening to you is that issues long buried are making their way into consciousness. I think you could use help to see if you are chemically depressed, but if not that you find somebody who focuses on exploring repressed feelings. Everybody goes to a psychologist to become better at being sick. Some will support you with that and some will actually want to help you. Think back those two months and ask yourself what might have happened to remind you of something from your past. It might be a key, might not. Good luck to you.

And here's a perfect example.

I'm towards the newer end of the boomer population, and I pay the max towards medicare.

That interstate system? A lot of Boomers paid for that. Public facilities? The same with a great many. A lot of us didn't want a perpetually expanded welfare state however many of the younger seem to think that the government should be taking even more from them and others.

I'm lucky. I have a teen and preteen living at home and I'm helping them with their education when it's time and they love and respect myself and my wife. I wonder how many bitching now complained when their parents sacrificed to give them an education?

Hell a lot of things got screwed up, but it was the "greatest generation" which gave us Vietnam, and what a treat that was.

Every generation screws things up, but most of my generation work pretty damn hard, just like you. The problems you have aren't us, but demographics. Our parents came home from wars and the economic times were good and we were born. At least we were grateful because we knew for all their imperfections they were our elders and they protected us when we could not. Like every generation before us, we valued them. When we die, who gets that money? You do.

Sometimes I think the last act some of us should do is burn our wealth rather than turn it over to vultures.

As a boomer I'll be the first to admit that we're a whiny bunch of candy-asses compared to our parents, who were mostly a whiny bunch of candy-asses compared to their parents. One of the most important things in life is making sure your children have a better life, which our parents, having gone through so much, mistook for an easier life. We've done the same thing with our kids. But for every boomer voting to gift himself borrowed largess there's a younker bitching about it (no matter that they are the beneficiaries too) AND demanding to do the same. How many Gen X and/or Gen Y kids are honestly clamoring for LESS government, LESS borrowing, LESS vote buying? Granted there are some in the Tea Party and such, but the majority of younger people are all about government doing more for them. Demanding that government take wealth from "someone else" and gift them with it is no different than what we have done.

I will say one thing for the boomers though. When I was young we worked in the fields with the Mexicans. To later generations those have become "jobs Americans won't do."
