Lovely. Where's the rocking chair?

Those things come in girly-pink these days. Surprised you haven't gotten them for baby gifts?

If you do keep it neat and tidy, please share your secrets with the rest of us. I never managed it 🙂

Congrats. When's Gwenneth due?

Still doing research on the rocker. Due September 22.

I've never had a baby so I don't know... is it common practice to have what appears to be a sampler of every single brand of diaper?

They were gifts from the various showers my wife has had. We'll see what works best from the different brands and go with that one.

The liners are expensive as hell but the diaper genie is great. The diaper champ while being more frugal by using normal garbage bags can't hold a candle to the genie when it comes to biohazard containment. The only time the genie stinks is the few seconds you crack it open to empty it. The champ suffers from permanent odor leaks that leave the room smelling awful.

And from my experience a pee soaked diaper thats been brewing in a sealed up liner for days is way more potant than a poopy one.

Are you speaking from experience with the diaper champ? It seems to seal up fairly well, but I know I won't get the full picture until it has the real stuff in it. It was a gift, so we'll give it a shot.

I use Pampers brand. Expensive, but the others don't seem as absorbent. The better it absorbs moister, the less likely the kid gets diaper rash. Also, the less likely it leaks. Even then, expect poop to leak out.

Yeah, we had one for about two weeks downstairs with a genie upstairs in the nursery. We tried two or three different types of bags but all of them left the downstairs stinking to high heavens. We stopped using it in lieu of another genie and all stinkie was quickly abated.

Nothing out there beats Pampers. Baby Dry variety works well when they're younger, and Cruisers when they're older and start moving around. Sign up for Amazon Mom now and get on the diaper subscription service, because otherwise you'll pay at least twice as much anywhere else.

Also, buy this now so you'll have it ready when you bring the new one home. Anything that helps them sleep (and in turn, you) is worth it's weight in gold, and this will be the best 20 or so you'll spend: http://www.amazon.com/Cloud-Sleep-Sh...4671081&sr=8-2

We have that also, but you'll still want a white noise machine. Thus the recommendation for the Sleep Sheep or similar products.

We have this strapped to the crib right now:

What you really need is a bunch of friends with small children so you can borrow stuff and see what works. Babies vary wildly in their tolerance of and response to these things. With luck you will find something that works for you.

Looks good! What kind of carpet is that, is there a pad under it?

My wife insisted that we do hardwood in our little one's room with a rug in the middle, and I wish we hadn't. She has already gotten some bumps and bruises from headbutting the floor learning to walk. Thick, soft padded carpeting might not be in style anymore, but for a toddler's room it's a lot safer.
