Baby It's Cold Outside

It's supposed to get down to single digits this weekend. It's right around freezing and I think lightning just hit a tree outside. Weird weather.
 
A little nippy here this morning. I really need to remember to fix my block heater cord this summer as too cold to be splicing wires in winter. Car did not sound happy starting this morning. 😛

 
Never heard of that before either LOL. It did actually look foggy out there though, was like driving through silent hill. Figured it was more crystallization of the air though. If I didn't have to work, could get some cool drone shots. May as well try to get some of those in before June 1st.
 
It's going to be around 0F on Monday. Got about 8" or so of snow coming tonight into early tomorrow, with rain/ice tomorrow morning. I'm not sure if I should get up really early tomorrow morning to snowblow before the rain comes, or do it at like 2a.m. tonight.

Err if you are going to get freezing rain, wait for that to happen then do snow removal. Much easier.
 
Getting cold in the house. I'm at work so no point in trying to heat it any warmer than that. The livingroom/kitchen floor is super badly insulated. Eventually need to remove all the drywall and redo that.

Living Room: 11.375°C (+)
Hallway: 14.375°C (=)
Server Room: 17.25°C (+)
HVAC Return: 16.3125°C (+)
HVAC Supply: 50.625°C (+)
Outside: -27.25°C (=)
Delta Temp: 34.3125°C

Not really, it creates a crust of ice over the snow and it can be hard to break through after. You want to shovel before the rain hits.

My shed's solar panels are caked in a freezing rain/snow crust since about a month ago when we got freezing rain. Same with the driveway, when I shovel or snow blow I'm just skimming the top layer. We had this weird freezing rain that happened without warning in the middle of a snow fall so it really messed a lot of stuff up.

No, shovelling snow with ice on top is a lot easier than trying to get that ice off your driveway.

Going to be curious to check my shed solar panels when I get home from work. They have been covered in this crust of ice/snow for over a month due to freezing rain a while back. When it's this cold out there is more sun, and the panels work more efficiently on top of that. So it would be interesting to see if they actually warm up enough to melt the ice. I don't imagine so though...

It was a pain the arse the other day, I drive down to town a half mile from the train station every day for my commute, then ride my bike. It had a coating of ice all over it, including the seat from driving through the shit. Woke me up properly for the white knuckle ride to the station on icy roads.

Actually TBH I've never been all that interested in ice fishing. Not really a fan of sitting around outside in the cold. In a hut with a small wood stove maybe I'd do it.
 
Yep, it's cold. Too cold for the kitty to be on my lap tonight.
Instead, have the woodstove ripping with this 15" macbook pro heater sitting on my lap.
Loaded up a ton of white oak logs in the bin this AM. I'm getting too old for wood heat but it beats paying $3500 a month for freaking oil!
 
I would love to have room to put in a wood stove. I have a fireplace where I could convert it but the fireplace is so much in the way I actually plan to remove it completely.

Wood stove is definitely going to be on my list if I build a house. It's practically free heat. I informed myself and it's actually legal to go cut down trees on crown land for personal use, you just need a license and there's some restrictions. I personally would only really want to cut the dead ones though.

18th century plantation house with 3 boilers.
And even with our 350kW solar farm it sucks with all the snow and clouds.
When oil topped $4 it was horrific.
