Baby got new Ipod - best way to rip all CDs?

No Lifer
Well she loves her new ipod.

What's the best way to rip all of her CDs (100s) and hopefully get song/title information.

I'd like to give her good quality but am clueless in the ways of the ipod and ripping.

Thanks in advance!

I use EAC+FLAC for lossless goodness, but will be using LAME to transcode files to MP3 once my Zen Xtra player gets here.

Some people prefer CDex, use Advanced Search > archived threads to find older threads on CDex or MP3.

another vote for EAC/LAME
cdex is good too, and worth dl'ing
as well as mp3gain for volume equalizing (can't remember if eac does that... i'm too lazy to boot my machine where it's at)

thank guys.

I just put in Sting soul cages and EAC found the track info. We'll see how this goes.

I'm really wanting to take care of her music and just rip everything she owns and pile it onto her ipd.

hmmm - 5 MB per song.

40000/5 = 8000 song.

Average of 10 tracks per CD = 800 CDs.

sweet.

iTunes. Simple and easy.
I don't know why you'd bother with anything other than iTunes if you're just looking to move cds straight onto the iPod. If you're looking to store in a lossless format or something for use with other players it might be different but iPods only play a limited set of formats. In iTunes all you'll have to do (after setting ripping settings) is insert cd, click import and then click update iPod.

Go with a lossless rip, either in FLAC, Monkey audio, or if you want to be able to transfer straight to the ipod without transcoding, Apple's lossless format in iTunes

Apple's lossless is awesome if you have the room on your computer. I use it and then make a 128kb aac file that I use on the ipod. That way there is less hard drive usage and better batter life.
