WTF! Friend of mine with a ~14 week old just got her ears pierced, what is this nonsense about? Is this common?

All cultures have bizarre and unexplainable rituals.

"This infant must have metal with inlaid stones pierced through its earlobes! It's important, dammit!"

Why are you butting your nose into your friends business? Its their kids, let the parents raise the kids as they see fit.

Next, people will be calling the cops for someone whipping their kids butt in wal-mart.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but I do find it distasteful. what's the problem with waiting until she's 15 and letting her decide to get them pierced?

They posted it on facebook, moron. I'm not butting into anyones business. And you'll realize I'm asking other people if it's common, instead of saying to them "what are you doing you blithering idiots!"

No they don't, both are done for cosmetic reasons.

Maybe the pierced ears is for a religious reasons?

That's not the case some people cannot have sex without a circumcision or without ripping the foreskin, it is also more hygienic.

Pierced ears have no practical /medical application

I'm not that concerned with an infant getting her ears pierced. I wouldn't take my kid to a mall though to have it done.

I don't like the look. I think it's a little silly on a baby, and it takes away a special moment in the future when she can get ear rings of her choosing. That said, it isn't any kind of abuse, and it isn't a big deal. It's just not to my taste.

I have to agree with this ear piercing was always a milestone.

In case nobody told you, this is typing.

If you want to "talk", send me your phone number. I use Vonage and get cheap international rates.

Talk:

- exchange thoughts; talk with; "We often talk business"; "Actions talk louder than words"

- an exchange of ideas via conversation; "let's have more work and less talk around here"
