That bird is on the ground for a reason. It's on the ground because it was weak or defective in some way. Helping the bird in any way is like putting it on welfare. You will just bring down the entire species.

yep. it's snake food now. may sound cruel, but I guess you're not cut out for nature, eh? ;)

Weather you decided to try and help the bird or not is your own choice, but claiming you will
"bring down an entire species" by helping ONE bird is lunacy.

My cat brought home a bird the other day. She had wounded it so I just left her out there to finish it off...not much more I could have done for the bird at that point anyway but let nature take its course.

I don't really like it when she brings home birds. Mice on the other hand, she can kill those all day long.

You have already altered nature's "course" by letting your pet roam around unattended, and letting
it kill indigenous species.

Yea, go ahead and get the vasectomy, then you can't diminish the gene pool
with your stupidity.

I laughed so hard at this thread, but I'm not saying why. Anyhow, good luck if you decide to raise the little critter.

Hmmm, interesting thread. The same thing just happened to me TWICE this week. A baby that was just learning how to fly - but that could only take short hops - made the mistake of getting too close to my beagle, LUNCHTIME!!! Then theres' a nest over top of my back-door entrance way and I came out the other day and almost stepped on one, looks like momma kicked it out for being sick cuz it looked like it was in bad shape - barely moving. I loaded it into a shovel and did the ol' catapult fling out into the woods behind the house. Thats the only flying that bird will ever do!

I am a bleeding heart animal advocate myself, but the scissors comments could be legitimate way to put down a dying bird. How is that different from chopping the head off a chicken or turkey at the farm?

The perp that did the sissors comment did not intend for it to be a humane putdown.

I agree. getting banned for the scissors comment is completely asinine. I work in a research lab, and I have to sac tons of mice on a daily basis. for the younger ones, the most humane way is with scissors. If the bird is injured, best to put it out of its misery. Ban someone for suggesting "to watch it as it suffers," not for suggesting to end its life humanely. The scissors comment may be the least cruel suggestion in this thread.
