Baaah I hate windows installer

Well I got a new 250 gb drive today and was doing a fresh install of windows on it. I picked the new drive and hit format... without looking at the numbers (I know it was really really fvcking stupid of me) anyways now it quickformatted my drive that has most of the documents and whatnot I need on it. Is there any way for me to get the data back? Like a program I can download to recover data from a formatted drive? Because I know the files are just marked as being deleted not actually completely gone (at least I hope that is the case) Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Since I'm guessing you didn't perform a low level format, I know it's possible to use certain software to recover files after formating

I had the same problem a while ago, and I ended up using a program call Get Data Back, which isn't free (couldn't find any free ones). It detected pretty much all of my files, but when i had it restore them a lot of them ended up being corrupt. The thing is i had accedently executed a linux command that wrote zeros over the first gig of my harddisk and plus i reinstalled windows on it after, so you might be more lucky since all you did was a low level format.

Writing zeros to the entire drive is a low-level format.

Hmm looks like getbackdata will work... but I don't wanna pay $80 for the software

use get data back, make sure you get the NTFS version, this program is worth every penny

Ive been in this position a few times. Money well spent imo.

Ohh ya, like anubis said, get the ntfs version, a friend of mine accidentally got the fat32 lol.

I think there is a program or two on ultimate bootable cd, I've never tried those though. Anyone tried em?

Er, i meant quick format
