BA Fry's: ECS K7S5A + Duron 1200 for $99

Until Tuesday at Bay Area Fry's. Not too bad, but not as good as the same Fry's deal for $89 that I got a month or two ago.
The CPU has the Morgan core and is faster than a Pentium III-S 1200 according to SiSoft Sandra 2002.
 
I am looking at the Fri., Sat., and Sun. ads and they have an AMD XP 1800+ and EPoX 8KHA+ for $189. I have read that you can call the mail order dept. of the Fry's that originated the offer and order it through them. But, then there's shipping.🙁
 
Damn, that's a sweet deal. The only thing Fry's in Houston is offering is an XP1800 with that same ECS K7S5A for $189. It's a complete rip off IMO

<sigh> we need a person on the West Coast willing to buy and mail these kind of packages to those of us in Fry-less lands for a "convienience fee"... seems you'd have a pretty steady customer stream.

I agree, they need to start building in Illinois 😉 Wouldn't complain if they opened up here in Roselle or Schaumburg.
 
By the time you tack on sales tax and shipping costs, newegg is within $10-$15 of this for shipping out of state. Plus, at newegg you're not locked in to a particular CPU so for an extra $20 you can get a 1.33 GHz Tbird with 266 MHz FSB - multiplier unlocked and easily runs at 1.467 or above. Fry's is great if you want exactly what they have on sale and can dig through the pile of returns to find a new one, but otherwise, it's just another big retail store full of people who don't know anything about what they sell.

You're trying to compare an OEM Tbird with a RETAIL Duron......and you can get the Duron 1.2 with the ECS mb at outpost.com for $119 plus shipping. I think the Tbird at Newegg with the same MB is over $150 before shiping. Even discounting Tax and Shipping, the Duron bundle is way less expensive. It's a great deal for the price. IMHO
 
Actually, I got the deal some time ago when it was $89. I saw the ad in the Oakland Tribune and the price is good through today. The CPU is OEM (no fan) and the board accepts either SDRAM or DDR.
The board is made by a division of PCCHips, maker of schlocky crap for OEMs, for the most part, but is supposed to be quite fast with DDR if you don't buy one that you need to RMA. There are plenty of sites that help you configure the board, which can be tricky and is picky about RAM and power supplies. Though some people try to overclock the board, it isn't a good bet for overclockers.
I sold my K7S5A to my cousin and put the 1.2 Ghz Duron in my KT133 Asus A7V, where is is doing a bang-up job.

the fry's i went to in Palo Alto looked like it had been there a while (looked like it had been built in the 60s-70s), plus it had a western theme! (i guess they all have different themes)

the point is, i don't think fry's is expanding very much
 
Sunnyvale Fry's got a bunch of new ECS K7S5A's there. I noticed the new box looks different than the old yellow/blue one. Anyone knows what rev. of the MB is it? TIA.
 
heh bundle schmundle...waiting on a cheap CPU and cheap KT133A mobo deal...so I can then use my CURRENT T-bird 1.2 in the KT133A, upgrade my CPU to at least 1800+ and put it in my shuttle AK31A...mmm...

Oh and slap in a GF3+
